The quickest way to see how the program works is to view the demonstration video. The short video provides an excellent overview of the program's features and instructions to make it easy to use. We highly recommend you watch the video before starting MathsBuddy to ensure you get the greatest benefit from the program.

Yes. With a MathsBuddy membership you have access to all grades and lessons. There are no restrictions allowing freedom to move back and forward. Click here to download a complete lesson list.

As a parent you can access detailed results at any time online. Most parents choose to receive the weekly progress report which is sent direct to your email every week. To do this, just login to the Parents' Area, select your settings and check the ‘Weekly Reports' option. There is also the facility within the Parents' Area to view detailed reports at any time.

An even better measure of how well a student really understands the lesson. It encourages and rewards a student, who tries more questions to reach and succeed at the higher difficulty levels. Click here to learn more.

This is best answered in the following excerpt from the demonstration video.

For most worksheets the answers are in multiple-choice format. Multiple-choice worksheets have a set of questions and possible answers. The answers are jumbled and there are extra, incorrect answers to avoid guessing.

The symbols and notation used in math quickly goes beyond what can be readily typed using a keyboard. Radical symbols, superscript and subscript characters, pi, theta, degrees, minutes and seconds... Although easily written by hand, it is difficult trying to enter such answers into a program.

The nature of some topics, especially in the higher end courses, do not lend themselves easily to multiple-choice-style answers. Sketching Graphs and Geometric Proofs are good examples of this. In these cases, once the worksheet is completed, the student views the detailed worked solutions, to their own understanding of the steps in solving the questions. Students use the solutions and marking to be able to grade themselves appropriately. By popular demand, however, we are in the process of converting many ‘self-graded' lessons into multiple-choice wherever possible, so that the student has a single, consistent approach for entering answers. Please note that the vast majority of lessons contain multiple-choice answers, and that the self-graded lessons are mainly found in the Algebra and Geometry course.

There are two major differences.

Firstly, there is a video tutorial for every Maths concept in the NZ curriculum from year 1 to year 13. This means that the student is in complete control of the learning process and can learn at their own pace, in a safe and secure environment, by stopping, rewinding or repeating the lesson at anytime

Secondly, MathsBuddy has no distractions. It is completely focused on the curriculum and what we want the students to learn.

MathsBuddy fully assesses students' understanding after each and every lesson with questions drawn randomly from a large bank of questions, which are then marked and recorded. There are also worksheets available for older students.

As the student works through each question they receive instant feedback as the correct answers are acknowledged as such and correct answers given if an incorrect response is made. For older students, worked solutions are provided.

All lessons are fully aligned to the New Zealand curriculum from year 1 to 13.

Any student can be set work from any level, meaning that students can be set work which is appropriate to their current level, ensuring that differentiated teaching and learning can be implemented and managed very easily.

This also means that any gaps which a student has in their knowledge and understanding can be easily filled.

There are two ways in which this can be done.

Firstly, there is a wide range of diagnostic tests for every concept, which determine where the shortfalls might be in a student's knowledge.

Secondly, Weekly Revision Worksheets regularly reinforce all prior learning and can be set with just one click at the beginning of the year or term, to occur weekly for the whole of the selected period. These are automatically marked and recorded and can be used to diagnose shortfalls in prior knowledge on an individual and class basis, providing vital feedback to the teacher.

Teachers are able to independently manage their classes, so students can be added and given immediate access, deleted and moved between groups and classes without any fuss.

A full range of reports available which include:

  • Individual lesson and topic summaries.
  • An analysis of all diagnostic tests
  • An analysis of prior knowledge on an individual student and class basis
  • Student activity by log in
  • Task reports on an individual and class basis
  • A summary of awards gained

A range of certificates from Bronze to Platinum are awarded for a student's performance in each topic. Students find this very motivational, especially when they can progress though the range of certificates as they gain mastery in a topic by attempting more questions.
